But instead of stating the obvious, let's get into the the more complex reasons of why people are so addicted to the thing we call video games
Basically, it comes down to 3 different things, as said in the video on the home page, called competence, autonomy and relatedness.
What competence basically comes down to is people who love to achieve things in their life. These people include achievement hunters, the people who need to feel like their growing, who love the feeling of mastering a game in and out. These people play platform games or games such as Mario,Mega Man and Sonic.
Autonomy, or doing things the way they like, is people who do not want to follow a set path and want to do what they want, when they want. These people are the type of people who feel pride and joy in doing things uniquely and different than everyone else. These people play open world games such as The Elder Scrolls and World of Warcraft. Personally I consider myself to be apart of this group because The Elder Scrolls and World of Warcraft are amongst my favorite games.
Last but not least we come across Relatedness. Relatedness is when people feel the need to be apart of a large body of people who love to do the same thing and for the most part will work together to reach a common goal. The people who play these games love talking to others and playing with other people because it gives them satisfaction to beat others and bring out their competetive edge. People like this play games such as Call of Duty and CS:GO
Now i know this page is long and boring but it covers the most important parts of gaming and why people do it.
